The Area

Bilsborrow, our local village is only a short walk away and offers Shops, Pubs, a Post Office and a beautiful canal side restaurant at Old Nells. There are numerous circular walks and an all new Garden Centre will shortly open.

Our cottages are close to the fairtrade town of Garstang. With a good selection of Shops, Pubs and Coffee Shops, along with some lovely canal and riverside walks. There is a weekly street market every Thursday with the car park only a stones throw away from the river, where cricket pitches are a summer attraction on a Saturday.

On our doorstep is the forest of Bowland which is the 11th largest area of outstanding natural beauty in England.

There are many traditional villages nearby: Calder Vale with its weaving mill set in a secluded valley; Scorton with many tourist attractions; Chipping, the quaint award winning village within the Ribble Valley in the Forest of Bowland; or visit Pilling to see the Pilling Pig and the pottery. Glasson Dock is the start of a 12 mile cycle track to Caton, or visit Sambo's Grave at Sunderland Point.

A little further afield are the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales both with famously stunning scenery. For a great day out for the family, why not visit the coastal town of Blackpool with its Pleasure Beach,  clean beaches, shows and autumn lights, along with the famous Blackpool Tower and Piers. Stanley Park offers boating, putting, crazy golf, bowling, beautiful gardens and has a lovely cafe.

Other areas of interest include Lytham St. Annes, with its renowned quality shops, and promenade; Southport with a wonderful beach front and theme park; and Formby with its well known Red Squirrel sanctury.

The historic city of Lancaster is just a short drive away and boasts a castle, priory and Roman baths. On the wharf sits the maritime museum, and well worth a visit is Williamson Park with its Butterfly House, lakes and gradens. Scattered down the side of the canal are some wonderful cafes and pubs.

If you want to explore some of the larger cities, Preston, Manchester and Liverpool are all close by.
